Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass Updates

Earlier today The Pokémon Company shared with us a look at the upcoming DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield – The Crown Tundra. Which was announced to be releasing October 22nd. The trailer gave us a look at some of the Pokémon that are returning via the DLC. With a lack of acknowledgement it becomes clear that there will still be Pokémon who are unable to be caught in Pokémon Sword and Shield after the DLC launches and thus no return of the National Dex.

It is a relief to see that all legendaries are included in the DLC however. So, if you have missed one previously due to missing out on a previous event or code, you will finally be able to complete your PokéDex. We were also given another look at the alternate forms of some of those legendary Pokémon such as the original trio. All of these legendary Pokémon are obtainable through Max Raids; which are a focus of The Crown Tundra. There is a co-op mode called Dynamax Adventure which allows players to team up with one another to explore Pokémon dens.

The Galarian Star Tournament looks interesting – allowing you to pick a trainer that you have met on your journeys to verse other significant trainers in the game. Pokémon Sword and Shield lacked any real post-game content and hopefully this has some longevity in it.

The Pokémon Company is once again releasing the special hat Pikachu. These have been requested for quite some time. Back during Pokémon Sun and Moon you were only allowed to choose one to redeem. However, now you can obtain each of them as they release – with the first one avaliable now.

Before the end of the year Pokémon Home will connect with Pokémon GO, allowing trainers to transfer their Pokémon to Pokémon Home and then further to Pokémon Sword and Shield if they are in the PokéDex. Doing this gives you a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO to catch Meltan – like Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. However, you also receive a Gigantamax Melmetal in Pokémon Sword and Shield. This was leaked quite some time ago and has been much awaited by fans and thus it is great to see it finally implemented in the game.

Finally, The Pokémon Company commemorated the release of the latest DLC so releasing a music video with popular Japanese band Bump of Chicken. It is absolutely amazing. The animation style is beautiful and it would be fantastic to see an anime in that style. So many aspects of the Pokémon world were included and it is worth a watch. The song is incredibly catchy too!
